What you should know | Transportation | F.A.Q. | The region

Q : What is the difference between 1x3 semi-guided and 1x3 fully guided ?
A : Well, let me put it this way ,a 1x3 fully guided is a adventure share by 3 friends in the tundra hunting together all the time and being part of each other's success !!! For me it's the ultimate way to hunt : 1 dedicated guide , 3 buddies together in caribou heaven !!!! Just think of the memories , the fun , laughter and team spirit you will experience !!!

Q : What if i'm alone or with only 1 friend ?
A : Don't worry we will match you up with some fellow hunter(s)and after a few hours we will all become friends !!! Remember we are all in this together !!!!

Q : Are different packages offered at the same camp site ?
A : Usually not but in some rare case to ensure success to all our guest we might have to move some hunters to more productive camps.

Q : What is the difference between the Leaf river herd and the George river herd?
A : The Leaf river herd lives higher up the northern Ungava peninsula and migrates down to the lower part of the tundra, it tends to produce bigger bulls with a whiter coat, The George river herd is located around Shefferville it sometimes mixes with the Leaf river herd, it tends to have a more creamy chocolate color coat.

Q : What herd are we going to hunt ?
A : We hunt exclusively the Leaf river herd.

Q : When should i come up to bag hard horn bulls ?
A : Typically after September 10 we get more hard horn bulls (but weather becomes more active and windy at that time).

Q : What kind of meals does the cook serve in camp ?
A :

The menu that the cooks are serving is very diverse and generous, it's based on a 7 days schedule so that every night at diner a different meal is served our food list is very extensive pork chops, roast beef, chicken breast, turkey, ham just to name a few, dessert are freshly made every night to enjoy, pies, cake, cookies and cupcakes , juice and coffee are always ready and available. For breakfast eggs, bacon toast or cereal and oatmeal are offered .

Q : What is the meals schedule?
A :

Depending on daylight conditions, the staff will start the generator around 6:00am for the cook to prepare breakfast for every one, the staff will be served first (usually before7:00am so they can get the boat and gear ready for the hunters then the cook will serve the guest around 7:00am. The cook will then put every thing necessary on the counter for everyone to make their lunch to their own desire to bring with then in the tundra. Everybody is usually back by 5:00pm and dinner is served at 6:00pm, again the staff might be served first so they could start preparing the meat and racks for shipment the next morning. The staff will turn off the generator at 10:00pm but you can use the lantern supplied in camp to have some light to talk or play cards.

Q : Can we purchase beer and soda ?
A :

Beer and soda are will be ship prior to your arrival in camp, but they have to be ordered in advance, make sure to mention that you want to purchase some when you book your trip, to office staff will inform you on the price (varies) but you should expect to pay more because of transportation, the limit is set at 2 cases of beer per customer.

Q :

How much luggage weight is allowed per hunter?

A :

On bush planes 65 pounds for luggage & guncase is the limit allowed.

Q : What should we bring and not bring?
A :

Hunting gear, weapon of choice, ammunition good boots, warm hat and gloves, rainwear (gore tex is the way to go) sleeping bag, gps, binoculars and personal item are basically all you need. If you can fit a fishing rod in your gun case bring it along you might have some fun ! Do not carry a tree stand unless you bring a tree with it ! Most of our camp don't have any trees.

Q : What if i want to use my muzzleloader ?
A :

Loose blackpowder is not allowed anymore on commercial airlines so you will have to inform us in advance that you want to use your muzzleloader , we will have some powder ready for you in Kuujjuaq prior to your departure in camp.

Q :

Why do you have to split the antlers and if my antlers make the book?

A :

The antlers have to be split to preserve space on the airplane , the method we use is approved by most taxidermist , they easily put it back together. If you have harvested a trophy bull that is presumed making the book after green scoring, the antler will not be split ,you will be informed of the shipping fees, after you get your trophy officially scored , send us the paperwork and Silak will gladly reimbursed the shipping fees.
